Carnarvon National Park
The Carnarvon National Park - over 298,000 hectares
- comprises the most visited Carnarvon Gorge section as well as the Mt Moffatt, Ka Ka Mundi, Salvator Rosa, Deepdale, Moolayember and Goodliffe sections.
Spectacular Carnarvon Gorge is 106 km south of Rolleston by road. With Carnarvon Creek meandering through the length of the soft sandstone gorge, it is a paradise for walkers. The marvellous narrow side gorges, cliffs, moss gardens, Aboriginal
rock art sites and glorious and abundant plant and bird life are in stark contrast to the brigalow country surrounding Carnarvon Gorge. This gorge engenders peace and serenity, and its spectacular views makes this National Park one of the
most popular in Queensland.
Camping is available in the Carnarvon Gorge Visitor Area during the Queensland Easter, winter and spring school holidays. Bookings are essential. For permits call 131304 or online at www.epa.qld.gov.au
Privately-run accommodation is available at Takarakka Bush Resort and Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge.
There is no fuel at Carnarvon. Remember to fill up at Rolleston or Injune. Carry water with you at all times when walking.
In wet weather, check out the condition of the 19km gravel section of the 44km long Carnarvon Gorge access road with the RACQ or the Ranger on (07) 4984 4505. The turn is 62 km south of Rolleston off the Carnarvon highway section of the sealed Great Inland Way.
Carnarvon Gorge Wildnerness Lodge has cabin style accommodation available 3km from the car parking area. Their restaurant and bar are open to the general public and you are able to obtain souvenirs, milk, bread, ice, and gas here as well.
Carnarvon Gorge "Takarakka" Bush Resort and camping ground is 4km from the car parking area.
